Redesign Time

By now you have noticed the new and improved website design, or Rare Device 2.0 as we have been calling it at home. Yes, the site is a homegrown effort. Got to put those web skills from previous jobs to good use!

We've done testing but we're still human so if you see any blips or odd errors, please leave a comment and we'll get to fixing it right away.

Besides the cosmetic facelift, the most exciting part is the expanded online store. It's hard to keep up with what is in the physical store because we like to carry limited editions but we're going to give it a try. This is just a sampling of what you'll find in the store itself but they are some of our most popular and unique products. Enjoy!

Reading Material

The latest issue of The Drama is here...if you are not familiar with it, check out thedrama.org. It's a very smart, very good magazine with up and coming artists, interviews, and the like.

I also have a couple new books - DIY: Design It Yourself for those curious about how logos and letterheads (and more) happen, and California Design which is a very interesting history of certain movements in many design disciplines that began in the uniquely odd state (my home state!) of California.

I also have new art books - Andrea Zittel, a couple on street art and 'urban calligraphy', a great typography book, a photo-essay on the alphabet interpreted by schoolchildren various cultures, and a gorgeous version of 1001 Nights with cutting-edge modern illustrations. Yup, lots about words and letters this time.

On the way is a new issue of Cabinet magazine, the latest McSweeney's which offers a copy of their new DVD short-film magazine, and lot of work that is loosely and poorly classified as comics or graphic novels. You'll just have to come in and see what I mean.

Spring is here?

So many new items, plus the relatively nice weather, makes me think it's spring already. (Also, looking at pictures of cherry blossoms already in bloom in San Francisco...) Here's a rundown of everything new in the shop today:

OK47 - cute new dress and a long tunic/tank
Hlaska - new line of men's wallets
Joy O Designs, Amy Tavern - silver jewelry
Laurel Denise, Fernworks - tiny art pendants on glass or resin

I had a fun and hectic couple of days at the gift show and did a bit of ordering, you'll see some new goodies all spring and summer.
