Rare Out There

One of my customers took pictures of some wall hangings they bought from the store and placed them, unbidden, on Flickr. It is really nice to see my designers products "in the field" so I have created a Flickr pool called Rare Out There and everyone is welcome to donate a pic.

I especially like how they turned $6 of gift wrap into a huge and groovy poster...

New for the Weekend

New jewelry pieces from Amy Tavern are here, she has a new collection of blackened steel mixed with gold and it manages to be dainty and a little tough at the same time.

From Nava Design of Italy we have some go to work bags, one is a vertical messenger format and the other is a larger brief-type bag, both are sleek and in a durable nylon canvas in surprising colors (and yes, black as well). Unisex and geared toward creatives, in a nutshell.

Nava also has a fun gift, One Year of White Pages - 12 little notebooks with a moleskine-like cover, one for each month. Each book has 1 to 12 holes punched all the way through to indicate the month and the whole set is bound together. A fun little art piece that I can't resist...

Eight brand-new artist wallet designs from Poketo are here. Artists include Susie Ghahremani of Boy Girl Party, Charlene Liu, Keri Smith, Miki Amano and the Little Friends of Printmaking.

Guilty pleasure: Spicy Thai Kettle Chips and Ben and Jerry's Oatmeal Cookie Chunk.

Last thing:

My financial advisor is also a conceptual artist (!) and his latest project is as always corporate and subversive at the same time.

Transition

Even though we're deeply and happily into spring, as a shop we are already done and thinking about autumn. It's one of the more disorienting parts about having this business. Why am I mentioning this? Because I am looking at linesheets for warm and wooly hats and scarves right now. Crazy.
Happenings:

May 6-7: pre-Mother's Day sale, 10% off all jewelry and handbags, and we'll have the pillows and some other things reduced much more than that as well.

May 11: Lena Corwin reception, 6-9ish. Come by, have some wine, meet Lena, pick up a limited-edition plate, etc.

New at the shop:

Margaret Nicole cable-knit cotton and leather totes, a smart and practical shape in two sizes.

Glassware from Roost, including vases, carafes and tumblers, and a lovely borosilicate teapot, which goes great with the Jenaer glass set.

More styles of bags from Highway, including a cross-body purse and a portfolio/carry-on nylon bag.

More Crystalyn Kae glazed fabric totes and hobos.

On the way:

More Jill Bliss journals and art books, Tonfisk ceramics, keyaki wood tea and sake cups.

Brooklyn Design

The very latest New York magazine issue is about Brooklyn design, and there is a map, and we are the very last dot at the bottom of it. Go South Slope!
